"Assisted Hearing and Interpretation"

As you know, recent decisions by the FED mandates assisted hearing and interpretation capabilities for law enforcement and court facilities. To this end, we have acquired new technology that will allow us to supply **Dual Mode IR transmitters and receivers that will accommodate both hard-of-hearing and situations where interpreting is required. The same receiver can be used for either application.
The systems consist of a small 6" square IR transmitter panel that will be installed on a wall in a courtroom. The panel transmits signals from the PA system or a microphone via infra-red light throughout the room. These new systems work at a frequency of 2.3GHZ and 2.8GHZ which is far above the 95MHZ frequency at which similar older technology units operate and thus are not susceptible to interference from florescent lighting (commonly exhibited as a crackling sound). The transmitter panel can also be mounted on a "microphone stand" for portable use and moved from one location to another.
A single transmitting panel will cover a range of approximately 60' x 40' and panels may be connected in parallel to cover larger areas.
The very light under-the-chin headphone receivers are capable of operating on either of two discrete frequencies, or both at the same time for actual stereo listening. One application for the either-or scenario would be for bilingual use. In a system where two transmitter panels are used, one would be fed by the main PA system while an interpreter speaking into a microphone feeding the second panel would transmit in a second language. The IRH-2000 headphones can be switched to either of the two frequencies; one for persons who are hearing impaired and the other for persons needing to listen in a second language. A considerable savings would be realized as you need buy only one headphone for either frequency.
The receiver headphones use a rechargeable battery pack and can be set in charging stands when not in use. The charging stand will not only charge the battery within the headset, but can charge up to two extra batteries at the same time. A basic system would most commonly include one panel, as many receivers as required and an equal amount of charging stands.
Operation of the system is as simple as it comes. The transmitting panel is on
continuously. The almost hidden channel (frequency) selection switch on the
receiver is left in the appropriate position. The receiver automatically turns on
when you wear it and turns off if you stop wearing it. The only control the user
needs to touch is the volume control. When court closes for the day, put the
receiver in the charging stand. The charging stand comes in two versions.
(457118 charges one headset at a time while the 457271 charges 5 headsets)
Installation of these systems requires routing 22 gauge 2 conductor shielded cable or most any coaxial cable (for the audio signal) and a 2 conductor 16 gauge non shielded cable (for 12v power to the panel) from the PA system to the transmitter panel location. * If power is available at the panel location the 16 gauge cable is not required as the system power supply with its 6' cord can plug in near the panel.
